Week 5 Thursday Night Football Preview - Colts vs Broncos

Updated: Oct 5

From a betting perspective, this game is absolutely disgusting.

Russell Wilson has struggled to meet the lofty expectations so far this season. He hasn't looked great. The Offense hasn't been producing in the way that it seems like it should, given the talent on this Broncos team. Matt Ryan hasn't looked great for his new Colts team either. They looked awful against Tennessee last week. Anyone else think it was a little peculiar that the Colts somehow found a way to beat the Chiefs? Something's not right there.

In terms of running the football, we know that Jonathan Taylor will be out. Phil Lindsay and Deon Jackson will enter the mix along with Nyheim Hines. It will be a full-on committee approach. The Broncos just lost Javonte Williams to a season-ending ACL tear, leaving Melvin Gordon as the lead runner in the backfield. The Broncos signed Latavius Murray off the Saints practice squad this week as an emergency backup, although I think he may see some action in this game. To sum it all up, each team's rushing attack is in shambles heading into this Thursday night.

The pass catchers on each of these teams have shown flashes of potential. Michael Pittman looks like a stud wideout for years to come. That being said, Matt Ryan loves to throw touchdowns to his Tight Ends so far this year in a Colts uniform. He'll need to have a strong game come Thursday night in order to pull off a win against the Broncos, as currently the Colts are last in the NFL in scoring and need to find additional production from their receiving unit. The Broncos will heavily rely on Cortland Sutton and Jerry Jeudy in this one. It's tough to say who will have the better game, as they are both capable of huge primetime performances. If I had to pick one, I'd take Sutton.

Denver is currently sitting at -3.5 as I type this sentence. I will gladly take that and run. I think Russell Wilson will have his way with the Colts Defense in this one, and find a way to sneak out a win by 4 or more points. I also love the Over here, currently sitting at 42.5. I believe it opened at this number, which seems way to high of a number for these two bad teams. That makes me think the Over is the sharp play.

My Bets:

Cortland Sutton Anytime Touchdown (light sprinkle)

Broncos -3.5

Over 42.5
